JSTOR only sells books in an unlimited/concurrent user access model with world rights. We do not offer the ability to exclude countries, territories, or regions. Every book sent to JSTOR must have a corresponding PDF, but publishers may also send a corresponding accessible EPUB file.
Please ensure books meet these requirements before sending them to JSTOR:
- For publishers using the JSTOR book metadata template, please see Metadata Requirements.
- For publishers using ONIX XML, please provide a valid ONIX 3.0 feed (we no longer accept 2.1).
Unlimited User (UU) pricing and global multipliers
Publishers may send JSTOR either their Unlimited User (UU) price directly in their metadata, or ask JSTOR to apply a global multiplier.
By default, JSTOR does not apply any internal multipliers to pricing, unlike other library suppliers. JSTOR will treat metadata prices as unlimited multi-user prices unless otherwise directed. You must alert JSTOR if the price supplied in your metadata requires a global multiplier applied in-house at JSTOR.
In addition:
- Global multipliers can be changed or removed at any time, so please contact our Content Support team if you need to change this on your account. (Examples of common multipliers used are 150%, 200%, etc.)
- JSTOR will not accept UU prices for some books and commercial prices/global multiplier for other books. Publishers must select one option or the other, and notify JSTOR of that choice.
- Please note that sending a mix of prices in an ONIX feed will result in inaccurate prices. Every book must have the same price type/price qualifier.
Updating book catalog prices
JSTOR does not offer dynamic price updates, which means that sending an updated metadata feed does not automatically change prices for outward-facing catalogs.
On February 1st of every year, JSTOR updates all catalog prices automatically to reflect the latest received metadata. To request changes sooner, please contact our Content Support team to ensure those price changes take effect at your desired time.
Please note that some price updates are on hold during the title selection period of our Evidence Based Acquisition (EBA) model. This timeframe is generally from May to June and November to December of each year.
Converting books to Open Access
If at any point a book should be updated to Open Access on JSTOR, please provide complete OA metadata (see Open Access Submission Requirements) or contact our Content Support team as soon as possible for assistance.
